This year, the Independence of the Seas will call at the Port of Vigo up to 10 times, bringing more than 50,000 people to the city, including passengers and crew. After today's stop, it will return to the Vigo docks on September 30th and will depart from the port on October 15th until next year.
The Independence of the Seas is the second largest cruise ship in the world, after the Oasis of the Seas—which will visit the Port of Vigo on September 27 and October 18—along with its sister ships, the Freedom of the Seas and the Liberty of the Seas. Built in Finland and belonging to Royal Caribbean International, it can accommodate a total of 4,370 passengers and a crew of 1,360.
It has 1,817 cabins available (21 of them for passengers with reduced mobility). In addition, it features a shopping street on board, an ice rink, a giant theater, themed swimming pools, a climbing wall, mini-golf, a 1950s-style burger joint, and more. It also includes a surf pool, a barbershop, and a range of other facilities that are sure to impress.
The Independence of the Seas is the third ship in the Freedom fleet. Along its 339 meters in length, it offers all kinds of amenities: restaurants, theaters, cafes, a shopping center, a medical center, a hair salon… as well as all sorts of attractions, such as a surf simulator, jacuzzi, gym, ice skating rink, rock climbing wall, and boxing ring.
