The Port of Cadiz assumes the presidency and secretariat of Suncruise Andalusia

The renewal of positions took place during a general assembly held in Almería.

'SunCruise Andalucía', the association for the promotion of Andalusia as a cruise tourism destination, held a general assembly in Almería in which, among other points, the positions of president and secretary of the organization were renewed.

The president of the Port Authority of the Bay of Cadiz, Jose Luis Blanco, has taken over the presidency and the head of the Commercial Department, Kate Bonner, the secretary position, replacing their counterparts from the Port of Almeria, Trinidad Cabeo Rodriguez and Jose Antonio Cuesta Durban, respectively, who had held these positions since November 2013.

SunCruise Andalucía is an association for the promotion of Andalusia as a cruise tourism destination, made up of the Port Authorities of general interest in Andalusia.

All these entities, aware of the importance of Andalusia's tourist appeal and the excellent infrastructure available, decided to create SunCruise Andalusia in 1995 with two clearly defined objectives.

Firstly, to promote Andalusia as a cruise destination and secondly, to find and assess the needs of cruise customers in order to improve and adapt the ports and the infrastructure and services of the tourism sector to those needs.

With this spirit, work has been carried out in recent years and the potential of Andalusia as a growing tourist destination in the cruise sector has been developed.

In recent years, the participation and collaboration of the Andalusian Regional Government through Andalusian Tourism has also intensified in these same objectives.

According to the new president, "the goal of the association, which has been renamed Andalucia Cruises, for 2016 is joint promotion as a cruise destination, for which we will focus our commercial efforts on improving the Andalusian tourism offer and promoting the destination among representatives of shipping companies and operators.".

To this end, the plan includes continuing direct promotional activities at trade fairs with Seatrade in the United States and Europe, which are financed with the support of Turismo Andaluz, as well as participating in the International Cruise Summit in Madrid in November.

During this year, the group will also work on the aspiration of Cadiz and Malaga to become cruise homeports, as well as on the promotion of a tourist route through the Strait of Gibraltar: two seas, two continents, two cultures, three countries.
