Representatives from the Port of Barcelona who attended Seatrade Cruise Global, the world's leading cruise industry convention held in Miami, gave a very positive assessment of the event. The delegation, headed by the Port's President, Mercè Conesa, and including the Head of Cruises, Mar Pérez; the Deputy Director General of Strategy and Sales, Santiago Garcia-Milà; and the Director of Institutional Relations and Communication, Núria Burguera, among other executives, confirmed that the Port of Barcelona continues to be a leading port in the environmental field. This is especially true regarding its commitment to more sustainable propulsion fuels for ships, such as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), and new technologies.
During the three-day trade fair, representatives from the Catalan port met with executives from several shipping lines and service providers. There, they confirmed the strong interest Barcelona generates among these companies. In this regard, the shipping companies MSC and Royal Caribbean announced investments in new facilities at the Port of Barcelona, which will enhance homeport operations and develop higher value-added services for the cruise industry.
The Seatrade Cruise Global conferences highlighted the importance of committing to sustainability and environmentally responsible integration, issues that are on the agenda
of all cruise lines. Representatives of the Catalan infrastructure company were able to share at the fair the work being done to supply cruise ships with electricity from clean energy sources in the future.
The cruise industry is currently expanding, with over 100 new cruise ships on order worldwide through 2027. The Western Mediterranean is a region with very strong growth prospects for the coming years, as highlighted at Seatrade Cruise Global.
