Tauck has opened sales for its 2028 European river cruise program, which includes three new Rhône itineraries ranging from six to 14 days. The new ms Harmonie will join the ms Lumière on the river, effectively doubling Tauck's passenger capacity in this destination. These additions are part of a multi-year expansion plan that will increase total passenger capacity on its river cruises by more than 50% by 2028 compared to 2025 levels.
“The Rhône has a special ability to attract travelers, and both our customers and travel advisors have told us they want more options to discover it,” said Jennifer Tombaugh, CEO of Tauck. “For some, the offering will be a one-week introduction; others will prefer to spend two weeks following the river’s course from Barcelona, through Burgundy, to Lyon. With the addition of the ms Harmonie alongside the ms Lumière, we will be able to offer this experience to a wider range of passengers.”.
France remains one of Tauck's most popular river cruise destinations, and the 2028 program reinforces the company's commitment to this market. Like the ms Lumière, the ms Harmonie will feature a spacious sundeck and The Retreat, a dedicated space for exercise and relaxation.
The commitment to well-being is also reflected in the itineraries. Tauck has confirmed five Wellness sailings for 2028, spread across a wider selection of routes, following the first two such sailings planned aboard the ms Serene in 2027.
New ways to discover the French Rhône
The new 2028 itineraries offer different ways to explore the Rhône Valley, from Provence's Roman legacy to Burgundy's vineyards and culinary traditions.
Essence of the Rhône is a new six-day, five-night river cruise between Lyon and Arles aboard the new ms Harmonie. Available in both directions, this cruise itinerary allows you to sail in one direction, spending more time at each destination and enjoying a relaxed cruising pace. It also offers the option of adding a pre- or post-trip stay on the Mediterranean coast.
The route offers an introduction to the southern region of France and includes visits to the old town of Lyon, the medieval village of Viviers, and Arles, known for its Roman amphitheater and its connection to Vincent van Gogh. Passengers will have the opportunity to explore the region's culinary and winemaking traditions, with various tour options that combine cultural experiences with more dynamic activities. Departures are scheduled for spring and autumn.
A Week On… the Rhône is a new eight-day itinerary that includes a five-night cruise aboard the ms Lumière, between Lyon and Arles. Highlights include a guided tour of Avignon and its historic Palace of the Popes, as well as an excursion to the Camargue, where passengers will learn about the region's livestock traditions during a private visit to a local farm.
At Tain-l'Hermitage, guests can participate in an exclusive, hands-on chocolate truffle-making experience with Valrhona or choose a bicycle-railway excursion through the surrounding countryside. Other options include bicycle tours through vineyards, local wine tastings, and visits to historic towns in the region. Prices start at $4,790 per person in a double cabin, excluding flights.
Barcelona, Burgundy & the Rhône is a new 14-day trip combining three nights in a Barcelona hotel with a nine-night river cruise. Available in both directions between Barcelona and Lyon, the itinerary allows you to explore five wine regions in a single journey. Among them is Burgundy, where passengers will visit Beaune, see the historic Hôtel-Dieu, and discover the region's winemaking traditions.
The program also includes a visit to Château de Cormatin, bicycle tours through the vineyards, and guided tours of Lyon and Provence. A high-speed train connects southern France with Barcelona, allowing visitors to combine two distinct European regions.
New developments also on the Rhine
Following the positive reception of Rhine Enchantment, Milan to Amsterdam, one of Tauck's most popular Rhine itineraries, the company will incorporate a new version into some 2028 departures: Rhine Enchantment, Italian Lakes to Amsterdam.
This 11-day itinerary, designed based on passenger feedback, begins with a three-night stay at the lakeside Hotel Splendide Royal in Lugano, Switzerland. This location offers a more tranquil and scenic setting for exploring the Italian Lake District. Travelers can take excursions on Lake Como and choose between a sightseeing tour of Milan or a trip to Monte Tamaro. They will then embark on a seven-night Rhine River cruise to Amsterdam.
As with all of Tauck's European river cruises, the 2028 program includes an integrated services package covering shore excursions, gratuities, onboard drinks—including wine, beer and spirits—airport transfers, baggage handling, taxes and fees.
Passengers also benefit from the support of Tauck's tour directors and local guides, as well as a variety of sightseeing and activity options on numerous itineraries. Bookings for 2028 European river cruises are now open, allowing travelers and travel advisors to select their preferred routes and departure dates in advance.
