MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys obtain ISO 30415 certification for their commitment to diversity and inclusion

MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys have become the first cruise lines to be certified for implementing the international guidelines ISO 30415:2021, which address human resource management, diversity, and inclusion. This recognition follows an independent assessment conducted by RINA, an assessment and certification body.

MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys obtain ISO 30415 certification for their commitment to diversity and inclusionThe ISO 30415:2021 standard establishes an international framework for integrating the principles of diversity and inclusion into human resource management processes and practices. This certification recognizes the measures adopted by MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys to implement these principles across their organizations.

Magali Bertolucci, Vice President of People Development, Diversity, Inclusion and Wellbeing for MSC Group's Cruise Division, said: “Diversity is part of our identity. Every day, people with different cultures, backgrounds, abilities, and experiences work together on our ships and in our offices. For us, inclusion means valuing these differences and creating a work environment where everyone feels part of the team and can reach their full potential. We are very proud to be the first cruise company to receive this RINA certification. It recognizes the work we have already done on diversity and inclusion and, at the same time, provides us with an independent perspective on areas where we can improve. Above all, it encourages us to keep moving forward and do even more for our employees.”.

The process began in 2023 with an analysis of the gaps between existing practices and the standard's requirements, and culminated in 2026 with the awarding of certification. During these three years, assessments, consultations, evidence gathering, and various continuous improvement initiatives were carried out.

RINA conducted its assessment at several MSC Cruises offices and ships to verify the company's compliance with the guidelines set out in the ISO 30415 standard. The project posed a particular challenge due to the global scope of operations and the diversity of stakeholders involved in both companies.

Emanuele Castagno, Executive Vice President of Certification at RINA, stated: “MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys have demonstrated a clear vision and a firm commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion, transforming these values into concrete actions. RINA is proud to have accompanied a leading international company on this journey, supported by strong internal involvement, open dialogue, and a genuine willingness to review existing practices and drive continuous improvement. Achieving this ISO 30415 certification recognizes the work done by everyone involved and the leadership of both companies in fostering an increasingly inclusive corporate culture.”.

The initiatives developed cover various areas and involve both company teams and external stakeholders. Among them, the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee stands out, bringing together external experts and employees of the organization regularly to review progress and propose new measures.

Through ongoing dialogue and workshops with strategic partners and suppliers, both companies have also shared best practices and knowledge gained during the process. Furthermore, new human resources policies and procedures have been introduced to promote inclusion throughout the employee lifecycle, from recruitment and career development to termination of employment.

The certification was officially presented to MSC Cruises on October 27, 2026, aboard the MSC Grandiosa in La Spezia, at an event attended by Magali Bertolucci, Vice President of People Development, Diversity, Inclusion and Wellbeing of the MSC Group Cruises Division, and Emanuele Castagno, Executive Vice President of Certification at RINA.
