Holland America Line will expand its fleet to 12 ships with the addition of the Vista-class Arcadia in 2029. P&O Cruises will transfer the ship to Holland America Line, strengthening the premium cruise company's capacity, supporting continued demand growth, and providing a new platform for the development of the Holland America Evolution transformation program.
The addition of the Arcadia will allow Holland America Line to increase its passenger capacity by more than 2,000, while providing greater flexibility to continue developing the company's award-winning cruise program around the world. The Arcadia shares the same Vista-class platform as Holland America Line's ships Oosterdam, Noordam, Westerdam, and Zuiderdam.
“Holland America Line continues to see strong demand from passengers seeking immersive travel experiences, authentic hospitality, and ideally sized ships,” said Beth Bodensteiner, president of Holland America Line. “The addition of Arcadia allows us to welcome even more passengers while further developing everything they already value about our brand. As a Vista-class ship, she is a natural fit for our fleet and represents an exciting extension of Holland America Evolution, the most significant transformation of the passenger experience in our 153-year history.”.
The addition of the Arcadia builds on the success of Holland America Evolution, a multi-year investment program designed to incorporate new spaces, restaurants, and staterooms, as well as the best features of Pinnacle-class ships, into a larger portion of the fleet, while preserving the spacious, midsize ship travel experience that passengers value.
Among the new facilities already announced for the Oosterdam and Zuiderdam are the popular Grand Dutch Café, a renovated Ocean Bar, the spacious Bridgeview Suites and Solo Verandah cabins specially designed for solo travelers.
The Oosterdam will debut its transformation in autumn 2027, while the Zuiderdam will do so in April 2028. The facilities and features to be incorporated into the Arcadia will be determined during the coming months.
The addition of the Arcadia will give Holland America greater flexibility in designing its schedule, while also accelerating growth and complementing the company's long-term fleet modernization strategy.
“We create experiences for curious travelers, offering new perspectives and deeper connections with the world and with each other,” Bodensteiner said. “Whether by reinforcing our presence in favorite destinations or opening up new opportunities to navigate in different ways, this additional capacity allows us to offer even more options to travelers who believe the journey should be as rewarding as the destination.”.
"At the same time, this is just one chapter in a larger story. It supports our near-term growth and fits with the company's broader approach to fleet modernization and future expansion, including carefully considered new builds. More exciting developments are yet to come as we continue to invest in our fleet and the passenger experience.".
With the addition of the Arcadia to the Holland America fleet, P&O Cruises will receive the Queen Anne, formerly owned by its sister company Cunard. The 3,000-passenger ship will undergo significant redesign in 2029 to better suit the P&O Cruises fleet.
Holland America Line will provide more details in the coming months about the future schedule and design of the Arcadia, as well as the other ships that will be part of Holland America Evolution. This information will be updated in real time on the Holland America Evolution website.
