AmaWaterways is launching a new culinary experience, Cooking with Mamie, which offers travelers a deeper, more personal connection to French culture through hands-on traditions both on board and ashore. Available exclusively on AmaDante and AmaLyra as part of the Paris and Normandy itinerary, the program reflects the company’s ongoing focus on immersive and authentically local experiences.
Developed in exclusive collaboration with Grandmas' Workshop, this unique offering brings authentic French grandmothers to the heart of the traveler's experience, both on board and at the Paris.
“Our goal has always been to create meaningful connections between our guests and the destinations they visit,” said Catherine Powell. “With Cooking with Mamie, we bring local traditions to life in a very personal way, offering authentic, intimate, and memorable experiences both on board and ashore.”
The story takes place in two settings: the ship and the city of Paris.
On board, a French grandmother joins the cruise in Paris to lead cooking classes for small groups of up to 10 people. Together with her, guests prepare classic desserts such as tarte Tatin and madeleines, sharing techniques, stories, and traditions passed down from generation to generation. These sessions are included in the cruise itinerary.
In Paris, travelers participating in pre- or post-cruise land programs can optionally enjoy the “Le Macaron: A Parisian Patisserie Experience,” held at the Atelier des Mamies workshop in the Montmartre. There, they’ll learn how to make macarons in a warm and authentic setting alongside a French grandmother.

AmaWaterways’ shore programs extend the experience beyond the river, combining stays at four- and five-star hotels in central locations, daily breakfasts, guided tours, and local experiences, along with organized transfers between the airport, hotel, and ship. In addition, guests are accompanied by dedicated Cruise Managers throughout the trip.
With “Cooking with Mamie,” AmaWaterways continues to expand its offerings of enriching experiences, bringing travelers closer to the culture, people, and traditions of the destinations they visit, both on board and ashore.
