Roma Cruise Terminal (RCT) officially opened the new Donato Bramante Terminal, a strategic infrastructure completed in less than a year and intended to consolidate Civitavecchia's role as one of Europe's leading cruise hubs.
The new building is the second developed by the company —owned by Costa Crociere, MSC Cruises/Marinvest and Royal Caribbean Cruises — and is part of the expansion and modernization plan for the cruise operations that RCT has managed in the port since 2007. By 2025, the company expects to reach 3.5 million passengers and exceed 860 annual port calls.
Designed by Studio Vicini (Genoa) and Sisco Ingegneria (Civitavecchia), the Donato Bramante Terminal has been conceived to accommodate large cruise ships and offer state-of-the-art services. Its main features include:
- Check-in room with 23 counters, expandable to 46.
- 30 information screens with real-time updates on routes and services.
- Cruise Bar dedicated to welcoming passengers.
- Interior spaces decorated with reproductions of iconic places in Rome and Civitavecchia.
As part of the project, significant improvements were made to the docking area, including the installation of LAN columns, new 300-ton bollards, and the expansion of the pier from 9 to 22 meters, facilitating the maneuvering of larger vessels.
The construction of the terminal involved 20 companies, 10 of which are local, generating a direct impact on the economy of Civitavecchia and the Lazio region. According to RCT data, the cruise industry in the port generates approximately €200 million annually and employs more than 2,300 people.
In 2024, the sector also boosted the growth of the tourism and services supply, registering more than 270,000 overnight stays in B&B establishments, as well as the expansion of Park and Cruise parking services .
John Portelli, CEO of Roma Cruise Terminal, emphasized the strategic importance of this new infrastructure: “Since 2007, we have handled almost 42 million passengers at the port of Civitavecchia. The Donato Bramante Terminal is tangible proof of the commitment of our shareholders—Costa Crociere, MSC Cruises/Marinvest, and Royal Caribbean Cruises—to the growth of the port and the entire region.”
