The Secretary of Mobility and Infrastructure and President of Ports of the Generalitat, Manel Nadal, accompanied by the Mayor of Palamós, Lluís Puig, inaugurated the 2025 cruise season on the Costa Brava this Thursday. This year, the ports of Palamós and Roses expect to receive a combined total of 82 cruise ship calls and 69,500 passengers. Compared to the previous season, there will be a 31% increase in passengers and a 41% increase in calls, achieving the best figures since the start of the season. Palamós begins its season today, and Roses, on Friday, April 25.
The economic impact of cruise activity in the region is estimated at 6.6 million euros. This figure comes from a study by the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).
One of the highlights of the season on the Costa Brava is the arrival of 20 cruise lines, 85% of which are high-end and offer more services to passengers. The arrival of these cruise ships means visits from tourists with greater purchasing power.
Forty percent of the cruise ships visiting the Costa Brava this year come from the North American market, and the remaining 60% from the European market, represented by the following countries: Germany, France, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. In addition, eleven cruise ships will call at Palamós and Roses for the first time.
67 stopovers and 65,000 passengers in Palamós
In 2025, the port of Palamós expects to receive 65,000 passengers and 67 cruise ship calls, representing a 34% increase in calls and a 26% increase in passengers compared to the previous year. These figures suggest it will be the best season in the history of the port in the Baix Empordà region. This Thursday, the port of Palamós kicked off the season with two cruise ship calls: the Azamara Quest and La Belle des Océans. In 2025, cruise activity will run for nine months, from April to December, and will conclude on December 13th with the inaugural call of the AIDAluna.
64% of cruise ships will arrive during the low season, while 36% will arrive during the high season. Therefore, cruise passengers will help to reduce the seasonality of tourism, which boosts occupancy and contributes to improving the economy of the municipality and its surrounding area.
It is worth noting that the port of Palamós will have three double calls and nine inaugural calls, and in addition, three shipping companies will be making their debut: Alma Cruceros, Emerald Cruises and ResidenSea.
