The Wind Surf, one of the world's largest sailing ships and the flagship of Windstar Cruises, is preparing for Phase 1 of extensive renovations taking place in Cadiz, Spain, this November.
The five-masted sailing ship will emerge with a fresh new look on its Classic Caribbean holiday cruise departing December 21 and just in time to ring in the New Year on a Beach Fun & Sun cruise departing December 28, 2024. Sun-seekers can also book a cabin for the Grand Caribbean Adventure, a 55-day cruise from January 4 to February 28, 2025, that will visit 28 Caribbean islands and 39 ports.
The multi-million dollar project includes a complete redesign of many public spaces with new layouts, furnishings, wall and floor coverings, lighting, and custom artwork, among other improvements, as well as upgrades to the Premium suites. New technologies, such as interactive televisions in all staterooms, will be incorporated.
Phase 1 Project:
Lobby – A new, more welcoming space, better equipped to serve guests with more seating options, plus a refreshed, fresh ambiance befitting a boutique hotel.
Boutique – A larger retail area with luxurious details.
Bar/Lounge – The ship's Compass Rose will feature a more comfortable and modern décor with touches of blue and orange, an elegant bar, and a new multipurpose stage area ideal for live music and local performances.
Dining Room – Amphora – The Wind Surf's main dining room will be completely renovated to offer a timeless dining experience.
Pool Deck and Pool Bar – This space will take full advantage of the ocean views and create a more inviting atmosphere for relaxing poolside and enjoying premium cocktails. Tropical scenes and greenery in the bar create a natural, open-air ambiance. Natural colors evoke a beachy feel, and new, artistic tiles in the two hot tubs mimic ocean waves.
Broadmoor and Sea Island Suites – Joining Windstar’s Star Plus yachts, Wind Surf will offer Broadmoor and Sea Island themed suites, inspired by the luxurious five-star resorts The Broadmoor in Colorado and Sea Island in Georgia.
Owner’s Suite – The Owner’s Suite, formerly called the Officer’s Suite, is the only public accommodation near the officers’ cabins. Following the refurbishment, a sophisticated nautical aesthetic is expected, offering authentic yachting life in a secluded location.
Cabins – New connected TVs in every cabin with the Wayfinder app provide access to the ship’s schedule, menus, movies and TV shows, guest accounts, and more.

During Phase 2, the Wind Surf's cabins will receive new furniture and decor. Stella Bistro, Veranda, and the gym will also be updated in this phase. The project is scheduled to be completed in December 2026.
All three of Windstar's Wind-class ships (Wind Surf, Wind Star, and Wind Spirit) are being redesigned and upgraded as part of a multi-year initiative. Wind Star has already completed Phase 1 of the upgrades, and Phase 2 is scheduled for April 2026. Phase 1 of Windstar's Wind Spirit will take place in April 2026, and Phase 2 in March 2027.
