After being delivered by the CMHI Haimen shipyard in China, the expedition ship Ocean Albatros welcomed its first passengers on June 15, 2023.
As part of the Infinity class, the Ocean Albatross spent its inaugural season sailing the Arctic.
On its maiden voyage, the ship, with a capacity for 186 passengers, offered an eight-day expedition to the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard.
In an effort to spot polar bears and other wildlife, the cruise sailed close to the ice floes north of the islands and included visits to several landing points.
In its inaugural season, the Ocean Albatross offered expeditions to Iceland, Jan Mayen and Greenland.
At the end of October, the ship repositioned itself south for an inaugural season in Antarctica and the South Atlantic.
Together with its twin, the Ocean Victory, the Albatross set sail from Ushuaia to carry out a series of expeditions to South Georgia, the Antarctic Peninsula, the South Shetland Islands, the Weddell Sea and the Falkland Islands.
Before starting its second program in the Arctic, the Ocean Albatross was recently christened in Denmark.
The event took place on May 7, 2024 and featured Berit Willumsgaard, CEO of Albatros Travel Group, as godmother.
To illustrate the company's commitment to the environment, the christening ceremony dispensed with the traditional bottle of champagne in favor of a symbolic block of ice.
As part of its summer season in the Arctic, the Ocean Albatross will offer a variety of itineraries to Svalbard, Iceland and Greenland.
The program includes an eight-day expedition to Disko Bay. The cruise, which departs in August, is a round trip from Kangerlussuaq and includes visits to several destinations, such as Sisimuit, Qeqertarsuaq, and Ilulissat.
According to the company, the cruise is a great opportunity for passengers to “marvel at gigantic icebergs, learn about Inuit culture and the Ilulissat Icefjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.”
