Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings publishes the “Sail & Sustain” 2023 sustainability report

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has published its 2023 “Sail & Sustain” report, which details the progress of its sustainability initiatives and reaffirms its commitment to the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.

This report is part of the company's "Charting the Course" strategy, which seeks to integrate sustainability into all of its operations.

Among the notable achievements, the company has reached a significant milestone by equipping 50% of its fleet with ground power technology, ahead of its initial 2024 target. Now, the goal is to reach 70% by 2025. In addition, they have begun biodiesel trials in 20% of their fleet, with plans to expand this to 40% by 2024.

The report is structured around five fundamental pillars:

1. Reduce Environmental Impact

• Climate Action: The company has set targets for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity.
• Ground Energy: They expect to reach 70% by 2025.
• Alternative Fuels: Biodiesel trials have been carried out on four ships, with the goal of expanding this to 40% of the fleet by 2024.
• Onboard Water Production: With the goal of reducing the need for freshwater supplies by 4% by 2025.
• Waste Management: In 2023, they managed to recycle, incinerate or donate 48% of the waste on board.

• Diversity on the Board of Directors: 50% of the positions are held by women and/or underrepresented minorities.
