Cunard's newest ship, the Queen Anne, has set sail for its home port of Southampton after officially joining the luxury cruise line's iconic fleet.
On Friday, April 19, Cunard took delivery of its impressive 3,000-passenger vessel during a traditional ceremony at the Fincantieri Marghera shipyard in Venice. A large crowd gathered at the shipyard to bid an emotional farewell to the Queen Anne after five years of construction in Italy.
The Queen Anne, the 249th ship to sail under the Cunard flag, will head for the south coast ahead of its seven-night maiden voyage on May 3. It will arrive in its home port of Southampton on April 30.
During the voyage, Captain Inger Thorhauge and her crew will prepare to welcome the first passengers of the 113,000-ton Queen Anne.
During the delivery ceremony, Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, stated: “We are immensely proud of the Queen Anne. Not only does it reflect Cunard’s distinctive style on the exterior, but the interior perfectly reflects the brand’s heritage with elegant, refreshed spaces and designs. We can’t wait to welcome passengers on its maiden voyage on May 3.”
