March will give way to the best month for cruise tourism in Cartagena in 2024, with 28 ships and more than 30,000 passengers in April, which will be the start of a season where more than 210,000 passengers are expected on board nearly 150 ships, with 17 first calls, 2 first visits from cruise lines (Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Explora Journeys), 25 double calls and 5 triple calls.
Furthermore, this year more than 50 percent of the cruise ships arriving in Cartagena will be luxury or super-luxury, according to the Vice President of the Port Authority, Pedro Pablo Hernández.
On the other hand, the Board of Directors has given the green light to the proposed 2025-2029 investment plan, which the Cartagena Port Authority will submit to the state agency Puerto del Estado for final approval and inclusion in the APC's Business Plan. This plan includes a planned public investment of nearly 70 million euros by 2025, encompassing strategic port-city integration projects such as the construction of the new Santa Lucía building, the renovation of the waterfront around the Cruise Terminal, and the completion of the Port Authority building's renovation in Héroes de Cavite.
Furthermore, both the vice president and the mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, have called for the definition of the rail connection route with the Mediterranean Corridor, in order to advance this infrastructure that will generate more employment and wealth in Cartagena and the Region as an international logistics hub.
