Princess's new ship, the Sun Princess, set sail on February 29 on its maiden voyage.
The Sun Princess officially kicked off the inaugural cruise season with a 10-day Grand Mediterranean Cruise, round trip from Rome, which took its passengers to the ports of Naples (Italy), Crete (Greece), Kusadasi (Turkey) (to visit Ephesus), Athens (Greece), Sicily (Italy), Mallorca (Spain) and Barcelona.
“This is a historic day as our new Sun Princess sets sail on her maiden voyage, and our guests can experience firsthand our sensational, next-level ship,” said John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises. “The ship is a magnificent showcase of advanced design, technology, and craftsmanship, with enhanced spaces and experiences focused on taking a Princess cruise vacation to the next level.”
Sun Princess debuts new spaces, such as The Dome, an innovative geodesic glass structure at the top of the ship, inspired by the terraces of Santorini. The suspended Sphere Atrium, which gives this new class of ship its name, takes the ship's central hub, the Piazza, to a new level. Here, passengers enjoy ocean views.
“The Sun Princess is absolutely gorgeous and passengers are going to love it. The architecture is incredible and the onboard services are top-notch, especially the glass dome at the front of the ship, which is incredibly impressive,” said Monika Best, from Nova Scotia, Canada, a guest on the inaugural voyage and the most frequent Princess passenger, sailing for the 141st time.
“Princess is evolving and looking more towards families and multigenerational cruises, which I think is absolutely wonderful because more and more families are cruising together“.

Sun Princess offers 30 inviting restaurants and bars with a collection of celebrity collaborators, high-end ingredients, and culinary experiences.
- Spellbound by The Magic Castle: is the combination of the world of magic with culinary art and mixology.
- Makoto's Kai Sushi: Chef Makoto Okuwa, a master of Edomae-style sushi, reinterprets traditional sushi with a creative approach.
- Love by Britto: boutique restaurant with the most romantic view and art by world-renowned artist, Romero Britto.
- The Butcher's Block by Dario: a new specialty pop-up restaurant from the world's most famous butcher, Dario Cecchini.
- The Catch by Rudi: an exceptional dining concept by Chef Rudi Sodamin, showcasing treasures from the sea.
- Good Spirits at Sea with Rob Floyd: destination-inspired cocktails, from the renowned mixologist Rob Floyd.
The main dining room, Horizons Dining Room, spans three floors with expansive aft views, and its inaugural menus were created in collaboration with the Culinary Institute of America. The ship also features favorites such as Crown Grill, Sabatini's, and Crooners, now with new design elements.

The Princess Arena is the cruise line's first configurable theater. At night, The Dome amazes audiences with acrobatic shows by Cirque Éloize, while the Piazza dazzles with a retractable stage and the immersive Champagne Cascade.
Soaring and inviting spaces
Sun Princess also features the cruise line's largest casino, the two-story Lotus Spa, and an expanded shopping environment with more than 200 premium brands.
The retail space also includes several onboard firsts, such as a showroom dedicated to luxury watches featuring TAG Heuer and Breitling, and more than 25 new brands available to guests.
The first family activity zone, Park19, offers multigenerational fun from the top deck. On decks 19, 20, and 21, passengers can enjoy Sea Breeze, Princess's newest attraction. It involves sliding along rails that encircle the ship's top deck. The Coastal Climb is a climbing structure.
With diverse spaces to suit all preferences and more than 1,500 balcony staterooms, the Sun Princess's staterooms include renovated suites and the new Cabana Mini-Suites that feature extra space to relax outdoors.
Rooted in sustainability, the Sun Princess is the cruise line's first LNG (liquefied natural gas) ship, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions and features ingenious energy recovery systems for these eco-conscious cruises.
