MedCruise begins today with the first course of the year offering professional development for its members focused on sustainability.
42 members from ports and destinations will embark at the Port of Genoa aboard the MSC Fantasia for a three-day training course focused on environmental and social sustainability, as well as the circular economy in the cruise sector.
This training has been made possible thanks to the collaboration and sponsorship of MSC Cruises and 26 port professionals, 6 associate members related to cruises from 11 countries will become even more familiar with the topic of environmental and social sustainability in the cruise sector.
The training will last three days and will include a stop in La Spezia, where delegates will be able to enjoy a sustainable visit to this destination, organized by the Eastern Ligurian Sea Port Authority, a member of the Port Authority of La Spezia.
The MedCruise Professional Development Course represents an important step towards fostering a more sustainable and responsible cruise industry, and MSC Cruises' commitment to supporting such initiatives, underscoring the collective dedication to positive change within the sector.

Francesca Antonelli, Senior Vice President and Director of Professional Development at MedCruise, and Cruise Manager of the Port Authority of Valencia, addressed the media at a press conference held in Genoa, revealing the details of the training program.
Specialized MSC technicians will take delegates on a tour of areas of the ship not accessible to the public, engaging in discussions about waste, water conservation, advanced wastewater treatment systems and energy consumption control.
Participants will also collaborate in workshops organized in small groups, focusing on ship efficiency, fuel flexibility, exhaust gas purification, energy consumption reduction, and other measures recently adopted by cruise ships to increase efficiency.
To inspire immediate action upon their return to ports and destinations, a session was dedicated to raising awareness about the social and environmental importance of selective waste separation and recycling, and responsible water management.
