The seventeenth Cruise Excellence Awards gala will once again take place in Tenerife on February 1, 2024.
Last March, the city hosted the awards for the first time, an event that has already been held in cities such as Barcelona, Palma, Málaga, Cartagena, A Coruña, and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The organizing company, Cruises News Media Group, has chosen Tenerife's capital for the second year running.
According to data from the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority, between January and September 2023, the five ports it manages received almost twice as many cruise passengers as in the same period of the previous year. There were 662,260 passengers compared to 346,741 in 2022, a 91% increase. However, the number of ships has decreased by 13.6%, indicating that the cruise ships arriving are larger.
These figures are merely indicative in any case, since the main cruise season in the islands begins precisely in September.
This season, the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will welcome some of the world's most luxurious cruise ships, such as the Silver Moon and the Seven Seas Splendor, as well as some of the largest, including the Iona, the Arvia, and the MSC Virtuosa. New arrivals include the Queen Anne, the Sun Princess, and the Mein Schiff 7.
The winners of the Cruise Excellence Awards are chosen by cruise passengers and travel agencies through online voting, and they reward everything from the best ships and the best cuisine, to the best itinerary, or even the best onboard entertainment, up to a total of 17 categories.
The ceremony will bring together top executives from cruise lines, shipping agents, cruise tour operators, ports and destinations, travel agents, press, partners, professionals and businesspeople from Tenerife, and other industry suppliers. All will enjoy a unique gala at the Tenerife Auditorium followed by a cocktail reception and dinner.
This edition has been promoted and sponsored by the Port Authority of Tenerife in collaboration with other public and private organizations. The possibility of welcoming more sponsors is still open.
