The Port of Valencia is updating its cruise strategy for the coming months with the aim of implementing sustainable management in both the social and environmental aspects of cruise tourism. To this end, it attended the International Cruise Summit 2023 , held in Madrid this week.

Top cruise executives and delegates from all sectors of the industry addressed fundamental issues and key areas to work on for the coming year.
With this, Valenciaport has gained an updated view of the factors that affect future decision-making. These include geopolitical issues that modify routes, sustainability, and new developments.
Along with the new profiles of cruise passengers, these were the main topics discussed at this Summit, which was attended by Mar Chao, president of the Port Authority of Valencia, and Francesca Antonelli, head of Marketing and Cruises at Valenciaport.
Valenciaport has developed a decentralized value proposition aimed at families and businesses, sectors far removed from the crowds. To maintain this approach, the Port Authority of Valencia participates in events like this one, as they foster collaboration between ports and cruise destinations and showcase its projects in areas relevant to the industry.
These issues include: OPS (Onshore Power Supply) solutions for the Port of Valencia, the progress made in accessibility in the port environment, and the decentralization of tourism arriving in the city, avoiding concentrations and promoting natural and intangible heritage in other parts of the province.
Valenciaport also attended a conference this week organized by CLIA Spain where Alfredo Serrano, CLIA's director in Spain, presented the state of the cruise industry at the national level and Caroline Laurene, CLIA's general manager in Europe, outlined the latest trends in the sector regarding the environment and the roles of both shipping companies and ports in the decarbonization strategy of the Spanish port system.
