Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has modified the new build contracts for the last two Prima-Plus ships to accommodate the use of methanol as an alternative fuel source.

The delivery of these two ships is scheduled for 2027 and 2028.
Although further modifications will be needed in the future to allow the use of methanol in addition to traditional marine fuel, this agreement reinforces the company's commitment to decarbonization and represents an important step forward in the pursuit of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
NCLH has also reported that it has successfully completed biofuel blend testing on three other ships, Norwegian Star, Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Epic.
The three cruise ships were tested with a mixture of approximately 30% biofuel and 70% MGO that was supplied in collaboration with World Fuel Services and GoodFuels for the Norwegian Sun and PRIO for the Norwegian Star and Norwegian Epic.
