The Board of Directors of the Port of Barcelona has today approved the launch of the tender to build the electrical substation that will become the main node of the network to electrify the docks and allow the decarbonization of port activity.

This February, the connection permit requested by the Port of Barcelona from Red Eléctrica was also granted once the Electricity Transport Network Planning 2021-2026 was approved by the Government.
The construction of the new substation will be carried out in parallel with the procedures and works necessary to make the Nexigen project for the electrification of the docks a reality.
Alongside the substation, plans are underway to build the medium-voltage network that will connect it to all the terminals, allowing the electrification of all cruise terminals, where up to five ships can be connected simultaneously .
Incoming ships will be able to stop their engines and run on clean energy with 100% renewable origin certification, reducing their emissions and contributing to the decarbonization of port activity.
