CLIA appoints Sascha Gill as vice president of sustainability

The International Cruise Lines Association appoints Sascha Gill as vice president of sustainability, thus strengthening its credentials in this area in Europe.

CLIA appoints Sascha Gill as vice president of sustainabilityBefore joining CLIA, Sascha was Vice President of Marine Operations at Viking and held various positions within the hotel operations, training, and development departments. Prior to entering the cruise industry, he was a Senior Brand Protection Consultant at Richey International, with responsibilities in Asia and the United States. Previously, he worked for leading hotel companies such as Marriott, Intercontinental, and Hilton. Within the cruise industry, he has also held several positions aboard Seabourn and Cunard.

Regarding his academic background, Gill holds a PhD in Business from Nottingham Trent University and an MBA from Oxford Brookes University; he is currently studying Environmental Policy Making and International Negotiations.

“Its sustainability goals make Europe a global leader, and sustainability is key to the future of the industry,” says CLIA’s Managing Director for Europe, Marie-Caroline Laurent. “By further strengthening our expertise and capabilities in Europe, we will be better able to support our members and partners on their journey to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050,” she adds.

In his new role, Gil will lead CLIA’s sustainability efforts in Europe. “I am delighted to join CLIA at such a pivotal time for the industry,” he says. “The cruise industry has demonstrated its ability to lead environmental innovation within the maritime sector; I look forward to working with our members and partners in Europe to help the industry achieve its sustainability goals,” he concludes.
