Princess Cruises has appointed Remco Buis, an experienced port operations executive, to the newly created position of senior vice president of maritime and port strategy and operations.
Buis will report to Chairman John Padgett, who described him as “a highly respected and dynamic leader in the maritime and cruise sectors”: “He brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership that will propel Princess forward and enable us to exceed our maritime and sustainability goals.”.
Among his previous positions, Buis has served as director of homeport commercial operations for Carnival Cruise Line and senior director of West Coast development for Carnival Corp.'s global ports and destinations development group, as well as director of strategic planning at Worldwide Sourcing Group and superintendent of operations for Metropolitan Stevedore Co. in Long Beach. He began his career at sea with Holland America Line.
This appointment adds to a series of significant hires made by Padgett in the past year, including Cal Almaguer as vice president of sales and service strategy operations, and Carmen Roig as vice president of sales. Among these new additions, Jeff Larson, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Brand Strategy, is leading a new approach to advertising and marketing; and Rudi Sodamin has joined as head of culinary innovation, while Sami Kohen has become vice president of food and beverage, with the goal of elevating the company's dining experience.
