China's first domestically manufactured cruise ship will be delivered by the end of 2023 under the new brand "Adora", which was unveiled on Friday in Shanghai.
Adora Cruises' first ship, a 135,500-ton vessel, will depart on its maiden voyage from its home port at Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal in Shanghai's Baoshan District.
The ship, currently under construction at the Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co. in Shanghai, will offer Chinese culture, cuisine, and entertainment. The 16-deck cruise ship will feature a variety of entertainment and recreational facilities, including a dining area, performance centers, attractions, and a shopping plaza.
A cruise route along the ancient Maritime Silk Road will be launched, CSSC-Carnival Cruises announced Friday at the annual Wusongkou Forum in Baoshan.
Construction has also begun on the second ship, a 142,000-ton vessel, at the Waigaoqiao shipyard. A third ship, an 80,000-ton vessel, received its "approval" certificate at the forum on Friday.
These ships will form Asia's largest cruise fleet, with multiple home ports in eastern, southern, and northern China, according to CSSC-Carnival, a joint venture between China State Shipbuilding Corp and U.S.-based Carnival Corp.
