Construction begins on the new MSC Cruises terminal in Miami

MSC Group's cruise division has begun construction on its new $350 million cruise terminal in Miami, which, when completed, will be the largest in North America. The four-story building, with four embarkation decks, will be able to handle up to 36,000 passenger movements per day and will have enough berthing space to accommodate three state-of-the-art ships simultaneously.

MSC Group's cruise division and Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri announced a partnership in July 2021 whereby Fincantieri Infrastructure would build state-of-the-art facilities featuring a striking design by award-winning global architecture firm Arquitectónica.

The new terminal will be able to accommodate MSC Cruises' largest and most environmentally advanced ships, including its current flagship, MSC Seashore, and future World Class ships powered by liquefied natural gas. Most ships docked at the new Miami terminal will be able to connect to the local power grid, in accordance with PortMiami's plans to enable shore power connectivity.

Fernando Pacheco, Managing Director of MSC Cruises in Spain, stated: “The new terminal in Miami represents our commitment to enhancing our attractive Caribbean voyages for passengers from Spain, who will enjoy the experience even before boarding one of our ships. We also plan to deploy some of our most modern and environmentally advanced ships in Miami, all of which will call at our stunning private island, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.”.

For summer 2022, MSC Cruises, sailing from Miami and Orlando (Port Canaveral), will have two of its elegant ships calling at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. MSC Seashore will be based in Miami and offer alternating itineraries through the Eastern and Western Caribbean; MSC Divina will be based in Port Canaveral. MSC Divina will also offer a stunning 12-night cruise at the start of the summer season, embarking in Miami and visiting Jamaica, Aruba, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Ocean Cay, before returning to Port Canaveral.

In the winter of 2022-2023, MSC Cruises' newest ship, MSC Seascape, will spend its inaugural season in Miami alongside MSC Divina, while MSC Meraviglia will sail from Port Canaveral.
