Oceania Cruises celebrated the launch of its new 67,000-ton, 1,200-berth Vista on February 25 at the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri Ponente, Italy, near the renowned port of Genoa. Shortly after the ceremony, held in full compliance with current health regulations, the massive construction dock was filled with water, and the Vista made contact with the sea for the first time.
The ceremony was presided over by Giuseppe Torrente, director of the Fincantieri shipyards, and His Excellency Monsignor Tasca, Archbishop of Genoa. After the blessing of the ship, the shipyard's godmother, Miss Anna Trucco, threw a bottle against the hull to wish good luck to the ship and all those who will sail on it.
“The Vista is the most anticipated ship in Oceania Cruises’ history, and I’m thrilled to be here with our partners at Fincantieri as the ship moves from blueprints and steel to reality. The Vista truly is a dream ship, and we can’t wait to welcome her inaugural season guests next year,” said Howard Sherman, President and CEO of Oceania Cruises.
Luigi Matarazzo, Managing Director of Fincantieri's Merchant Ship Division, stated: “Ten years have passed since we delivered the Riviera to our friends at Oceania Cruises, from the same shipyard in Sestri. The launch of this new vessel therefore represents a significant milestone, not only in its construction but also in strengthening our relationship with the cruise line. I am confident that the Vista will usher in a new class of ships distinguished by their elegance and technological advancements.”.
The Vista will make its maiden voyage from Rome to Barcelona on April 14, 2023, followed by twelve more cruises around Europe before beginning voyages from the United States to the Canadian coast and New England, the Panama Canal and the Caribbean.
