Crystal Cruises announces it will temporarily suspend operations following the bankruptcy of its parent company, Genting Hong Kong. Crystal's ocean cruises will be canceled until April 29, 2022, while river cruises are suspended until the end of May 2022.
The Crystal Symphony, Crystal Serenity, and the new Crystal Endeavour are currently at sea and will return to port and disembark passengers in Miami, Aruba, and Ushuaia, Argentina, respectively. The line's other river cruise ships, which are not currently sailing, will also enter an extended pause, instead of resuming operations in March as usual.
Genting Hong Kong, owner of Asian companies Dream Cruises and Star Cruises, as well as Crystal, has had financial problems since the COVID-19 pandemic forced cruises to close worldwide in early 2020.
“This has been an extremely difficult but prudent decision, given the current business environment and recent developments with our parent company, Genting Hong Kong,” said Crystal Chairman Jack Anderson. “Crystal has been synonymous with luxury cruising for more than 30 years, and we look forward to welcoming back our valued guests when we resume operations.”
The cruise line is informing both customers and travel agents of the suspension. Passengers on canceled cruises will receive a full refund.
