Silversea Cruises is introducing a groundbreaking new wellness program, Otium, which will debut on the new Silver Dawn ship, welcoming guests from spring 2022. A nod to the company's Italian heritage, Otium draws inspiration from the leisurely pace of life in ancient Rome. In ancient Roman culture, otium, the opposite of negotium, the absence of pleasure; it was a period of time dedicated to leisure, during which people bathed, conversed, sang, theorized, drank, ate, and relaxed.

Otium will provide guests with a personalized, multidimensional wellness journey throughout the Silver Dawn, beginning in Silversea's suites—the most spacious at sea—and expanding with a carefully curated range of treatments in the redesigned spa, flowing seamlessly into every moment of the cruise experience. The result is an elevation of Silversea's unique vision of luxury, where even the smallest details of the cruise experience have been enhanced for guests' enjoyment.
In a recent pilot test of its new wellness program, Silversea showcased the following experiences as key pillars of Otium:
- The Otium Rest Experience – Otium begins with an exceptional night's sleep, tailored to each individual's preferences. Every Silversea guest sleeps on the finest Egyptian cotton sheets, produced by Rivolta Carmignani, an ambassador of premium Italian craftsmanship. Aboard the Silver Dawn, guests in all suite categories will also benefit from a special mattress designed exclusively for Silversea for the ultimate sleep experience. Offering guests even greater choice, the company's standard pillow menu will be expanded to include customizable blends of feathers, memory foam, firm down, and enhanced down alternatives.
- The Otium Bathing Experience – In all suite categories on Silver Dawn , guests will be offered bathrooms with walk-in showers and bathtubs, showcasing some of the most spacious bathrooms at sea. Otium will feature a bespoke bathing experience, prepared by Silversea's butlers, where guests can enjoy a multi-sensory bath for complete relaxation. Wearing luxurious Otium bathrobes and using exclusive bath salts, guests will bathe in bliss by candlelight. They will unwind to a carefully curated playlist of their choice, while savoring a variety of delicacies, including caviar canapés, chocolate truffles, and champagne, among others.
- The Otium Experience on Private Balconies – On some of the most spacious balconies at sea, guests can tailor their experiences to the weather, whether cruising in cold or warm waters. In frigid conditions, such as Antarctica, the Arctic, or the Russian Far East, Silversea has curated a pampering experience on guests' balconies, complete with a warm cashmere blanket, a selection of delectable snacks, and the first-ever hot chocolate menu at sea. When basking in the sun in warmer climates, from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean and beyond, guests can cool down with refreshing body mists, luxurious sunscreens, delicious cocktails, and gourmet bites.
- The Otium Comfort Dining Experience –Silversea’s culinary offerings are already among the most luxurious at sea, with a variety of fine dining restaurants available on every ship, sustainable caviar and champagne available 24/7, one of the largest complimentary wine lists at sea, and a wide range of exclusive delicacies. With Otium, Silversea is further enhancing its food and beverage offerings. Signature dishes on the Otium Comfort Dining menu will include everything from lobster and caviar in brioche rolls to a selection of gourmet popcorn and other options incorporating the company’s premium ingredients.
- The Otium Spa Experience –The Silver Dawn has been redesigned with Otium in mind, offering guests a curated menu of treatments, expertly crafted for optimal relaxation. In addition to enjoying soothing massages and a variety of other treatments, guests can unwind and socialize in the spa's thermal areas with a glass of champagne and gourmet specialties such as signature bites, enriched with trademarked ingredients, from caviar to truffles.
