The luxury cruise ship from the British shipping company Saga, handled by Pérez y Cía, docked at the Maritime Station this morning at 8:00 a.m., arriving from Le Verdon, France, and is scheduled to depart for Leixões, Portugal, at 5:00 p.m. This is the third cruise ship to call at the Port of Santander since the start of the pandemic.
The Spirit of Adventure is 236 meters long and 31.2 meters wide, with a maximum capacity of 1,000 passengers, currently reduced to a maximum of 800 due to COVID measures, in addition to 550 crew members. They have all been able to take advantage of their stay in Cantabria to visit the city of Santander today, as well as other places in the region.
To commemorate this first stop and as a tribute to the ship's first visit to the region, the director of the Port Authority, Santiago Díaz Fraile, together with Miriam Díaz, Councilor for Tourism of the Santander City Council, have presented the captain of the Spirit of Adventure, Franko Papic, with a commemorative plaque and some books about Santander to be added to the onboard library.
To organize cruise ship calls and promote cruise tourism, the Port Authority of Santander, the Government of Cantabria, and the Santander City Council have created the Santander Cruise Deluxe brand, with the aim of promoting Cantabria as a cruise destination. The arrival of the luxury cruise ship Spirit of Adventure demonstrated this collaboration once again, with the Santander City Council providing maps and support staff, while the regional government contributed by hiring a group of pipers and tambourine players to welcome the cruise passengers to Santander.
