The Board of Directors of the Port of Tarragona approved in September the tender for the award of a concession for the construction and operation of a public cruise terminal at the Balears Wharf. The agreement is based on a set of specifications that will govern the public tender for the awarding of the concession.
This decision represents a paradigm shift in the way the Tarragona Port cruise terminal is managed, moving from public management to a concessionary one.
The decision will involve the construction of a terminal of at least 5,900 square meters with a twelve-year operating period starting in March 2022, meaning that the 2022 cruise season will be managed by the new operator.
The deadline for companies to submit their bids will open before the end of 2021.
In an interview with Radio Tarragona, the Port President, Josep Maria Cruset, stated that this approval represents a further step in improving the services offered to tourists arriving in Tarragona and will provide better conditions for all agents involved in cruise operations.
The new cruise terminal will be a new reception point for passengers arriving in the city. The Port Authority aims to create an innovative terminal that will become a landmark for both the Port and the city.
Optimizing passenger and vehicle mobility, respecting the environment, and providing high-quality service are priorities for the Port.
All of these are actions included in the 2030 Agenda Sustainability Plan, which must be an integral part of this new project.
