The Port of Motril has resumed international cruise ship activity, suspended since March 2020 due to the pandemic, with the arrival of the Bolette, from the Fred Olsen Line company. The president of the Port Authority, José García Fuentes, has pointed out that “the reactivation of international cruises implies the launch of various projects to promote tourism in our land, a different and genuine tourism that offers a multitude of experiences, highlighting the great potential offered by the Costa Tropical, the province of Granada and Jaén.
García Fuentes highlighted the efforts made by the Port of Motril during the pandemic to “enhance its appeal and position itself as an infrastructure capable of guaranteeing the safety of international cruise ships and passengers.” The president of the Port Authority, who described the day as “special,” encouraged those present to continue working to promote “our beautiful destination.”.
On behalf of the Motril City Council, Mayor Luisa García Chamorro highlighted the resources of her city, the Costa Tropical, and the rest of Granada for cruise tourism. “It is a unique province where you can enjoy both snow and sea in a short period of time.”.
The welcoming ceremony concluded with the Port Authority presenting a series of awards to the institutions and companies "for your valuable collaboration and commitment to promoting cruise tourism," García Fuentes told them.
In total, the Port of Motril has received 621 passengers, of whom more than 300 have been able to visit the city, and 800 crew members.
