The Port of Malaga received four cruise ships on September 30, resulting in a movement of 4,608 cruise passengers during the day, the highest passenger flow in 16 months.
Two of these ships, the 'Iona' from P&O Cruises and the 'World Navigator' from Mystic Cruises, visited the Malaga destination for the first time, so representatives of the Port Authority, Malagaport, the Tourism Area of the Malaga City Council, Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol, the Ministry of Tourism of the Andalusian Regional Government and Malaga Cruise Port presented commemorative plaques to their respective captains, in a reception held at the foot of the dock.
The Iona arrived at 7:00 AM and will remain at the North Dock until its departure at 5:00 PM. It is one of the largest cruise ships currently in service, measuring 337 meters in length, and therefore carried the majority of today's passengers: more than 3,000 cruise passengers, primarily British.
At the same time, the exclusive Grand Circle Cruise Line ship Clio and will remain docked at pier 3 until its departure at 6:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, the well-known Mein Schiff 3, from the cruise line TUI Cruises, which caters to the German-speaking market, also arrived early, at 8:00 a.m. It will remain at the North Dock until 7:00 p.m.
Finally, the 'World Navigator' docked at 6:00 PM at the Palmeral Terminal, from where the 128 passengers who had disembarked in the morning in Motril to visit the Alhambra boarded. They were then transferred by bus to the Port of Malaga to depart at 11:59 PM for their next destination.
Since last week, shipping companies have relaxed the excursion model, so it is no longer necessary to do them in bubble groups.
The arrival of passengers (all vaccinated), the implementation of health protocols on board ships and the decrease in the incidence of Covid, currently allow us to take this further step towards normality.
