Norwegian Cruise Line has announced the addition of Katakolon (Olympia) as its newest embarkation port in Greece. Beginning September 17, 2021, passengers sailing aboard the Norwegian Getaway's immersive Mediterranean voyages in 2021 will have the opportunity to embark at the Ionian port, located on the Peloponnese peninsula.
This announcement marks the first time NCL has included a secondary homeport in Greece as part of its ongoing exploration of new itinerary options and in partnership with the Greek government.
This move follows NCL's recent deployment of the Norwegian Jade to Athens (Piraeus) for the first time as part of a long-term strategy to further increase the company's presence in Europe, one of its most popular cruise destinations. By 2023, the company plans to have nine ships based in the region, with the Norwegian Dawn, Epic, Escape, Getaway, Gem, Jade, and Star scheduled to sail to Greece.
