Following Carnival Cruise Line's decision to give the Carnival Victory a new lease of life with an investment of nearly 200 million euros in its modernization, the Cadiz shipyard is operating at full capacity with the ship's renovation project.
The Carnival Victory arrived at Navantia Puerto Real in mid-March from the port of Miami, with more than 3,000 people on board, to begin a complete refurbishment that would result in a new ship, the “Carnival Radiance”. Work had begun during the voyage from Miami to Puerto Real, and the ship arrived with its interior practically gutted.
Their arrival at Navantia Puerto Real coincided with the start of the state of emergency in Spain, so the rehabilitation work was temporarily suspended based on the shutdown of activity at Navantia and all the travel restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The shipping company has kept the work on schedule and plans to incorporate the ship into its fleet next spring. The first rehabilitation work has now resumed, and starting in January, the ship will be moved to the Puerto Real plant to complete the modernization work before joining the Carnival Cruise Line fleet.
