Iconic photographer Steve McCurry – a valued ambassador for Silversea Cruises – has published never-before-seen photographs in his new book, The World Through My Eyes: Unpublished Images. Of the 102 captivating photographs in the book, 18 were taken during McCurry's voyages with Silversea, as the celebrated storyteller explored countries such as Benin, Madagascar, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Togo, and others.
Released first in Italian and then in American English on November 24—and since translated into French, German, and Spanish—"The World Through My Eyes" takes readers around the globe, revealing the diversity of human life. From India, Myanmar, and Cuba to Togo, Ethiopia, Macedonia, and the monasteries of Tibet, McCurry offers a fresh perspective on many of the world's most fascinating destinations. McCurry is known for creating some of the most iconic images of recent times; his latest compilation reveals the incredible depth of his work. Acclaimed travel writer Pico Iyer, who is also a longtime contributor to Silversea Cruises, wrote the book's foreword.

INDIA
In March 2017, McCurry arrived in Delhi with Silversea to explore India, a destination dear to the photographer. “While walking down a small alley in Kolkata, I passed this little temple as the priest began the puja, or evening prayer. Performed just before nightfall, it marks the last of the daily prayers and prepares the mind for God’s beneficence.”
PAPUA NEW GUINEA
McCurry focused on the Asaro people of Papua New Guinea in November 2017. “I was fascinated to meet the mud men of the Papua New Guinea highlands, who make macabre masks and pose with weapons in homage to their past tribal rivalries. Although their dances are more ceremonial today, they still venerate the traditions of their ancestors by remembering old forms of superstition and illusion.”
MADAGASCAR
In November 2019, McCurry fulfilled a lifelong ambition by traveling to Madagascar with Silversea. “It had always been my dream to travel to Madagascar, and I was privileged to visit it for the first time in November 2019. It was an incredible experience to see the giant African baobabs up close. They are often referred to as the 'Tree of Life' because of their age and their ability to store water during times of drought.”
ANTARCTICA
McCurry traveled to Antarctica for the first time with Silversea Cruises, departing from Ushuaia on the Silver Cloud on December 10, 2019. The photographer witnessed whales, seabirds, penguins, and elephant seals, as well as vast glaciers and relics of history, frozen in time. “After a career photographing primarily in color, my trip to Antarctica was, nevertheless, a visual feast,” says McCurry. “It far exceeded my expectations. Monochromatic and minimalist, the gigantic floating sculptures are in constant motion, and the shades of white and blue are ceaselessly changing and evolving.”
