The iconic image of large cruise ships at the Santa Catalina dock in the Port of Las Palmas was repeated this Friday, November 13, following the start of the cruise season in the Canary Islands just a week ago.
The impressive Mein Schiff 2, operated by TUI Cruises, carrying 860 passengers, has completed its first tour of the Canary Islands in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, safely and without any health incidents. This inaugural voyage has proven to be a successful pilot program for the sector, which had ceased operations eight months ago due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
In fact, the ship will return after carrying out the embarkation operation of 1,200 new cruise passengers, the capacity currently allowed under the current health regulations, 60% of its capacity.
The Mein Schiff 2 will continue its Canary Islands itineraries until March 12, 2021, with embarkation and disembarkation every Friday in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The TUI cruise ship will be joined in December by the Mein Schiff 6 (Fridays) and the AIDAmar (Saturdays) and AIDAperla (Sundays), from AIDA Cruises, according to forecasts from the Port of Las Palmas.
The Santa Catalina Dock passenger station has been reconfigured according to current health regulations and incorporating extra safety requests from the company.
