The German cruise line, a subsidiary of Costa Cruises, had planned several short cruises on August 5, 8, and 12 aboard the AIDAperla, and on August 12 aboard the AIDAmar. These cruises have been canceled due to the lack of final approval from Italian authorities, the country where its ships are registered.
“The concepts and certifications for restarting our cruise operations have been successfully developed and confirmed with the relevant authorities. Contrary to our expectations, final formal approval for the start of our short cruises on August 5, from Italy, the country that flags our ships, is still pending,” the cruise line said in a statement.
“Following intensive preparations with the support of numerous national and international authorities and health experts, we have developed comprehensive restart plans and implemented all enhanced hygiene standards and COVID-19 protection measures on board our ships. We sincerely regret this delay. We would have been delighted to welcome our guests on board from August 5th. We assume we will receive the final formal approval from Italy in due course.”
