The global board of directors of CLIA, an association that includes most of the world's cruise lines, has decided to extend the voluntary suspension of cruises from US ports until September 15, 2020 for ships with more than 250 passengers.

Uncertainty surrounding the evolution of the coronavirus pandemic and the obstacles to restarting cruises on July 24, the date on which the cruise ban issued by U.S. authorities was set to expire, have led to this decision. Given the devastating impact this suspension will have on jobs and the economy, CLIA hopes to use this time to engage in productive dialogue with the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) regarding the future of cruise operations in the U.S.
