On April 30th, the foundation stone was laid for the new Cruise Terminal to be built in the Old Port of Tallinn, Estonia. The event was attended by Peeter Nõgu, Head of the Infrastructure Division of the Port of Tallinn, and Margus Põim, a member of the Board of Directors of YIT Eesti AS, among other guests.
“The cruise season, which was originally scheduled to begin at the end of April, has had to be postponed, but this has allowed construction work to proceed, so we will soon be able to see the terminal building,” said Peeter Nõgu, Port Infrastructure Manager.
The terminal's technical design incorporates sustainable, environmentally friendly, and energy-saving solutions suitable for the building's construction in the Nordic climate, allowing it to be used outside of the cruise season. The study was conducted as part of the Green Cruise Port project, co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg Baltic Sea program.
The new cruise terminal will be multifunctional and environmentally friendly, and will also feature a pedestrian promenade with green spaces for the use of Tallinn residents. Construction of the new cruise terminal, the result of an agreement between the Port of Tallinn and YIT Eesti AS, valued at €13.7 million, is expected to be completed in July 2021.
