The MedCruise Association is a large family comprised of 73 port affiliates (representing more than 135 ports) and 33 associates from 21 different countries, some of which have unfortunately been affected by COVID-19. MedCruise recommends following the preventive measures taken by the World Health Organization (WHO), governments, national health institutions, and centers for disease prevention and control.
The cruise industry is directly affected by this situation, as its activity is directly linked to the preventative measures taken by some countries, such as strict mobility restrictions within national territories and the banning of flights from many destinations. Cruise lines have been forced to cancel cruises on many itineraries, which directly impacts cruise port calls and passenger visits to our destinations, following the WHO's declaration of the COVID-19 outbreak as a pandemic on March 12.
“I would like to express my support for all the affected countries and regions and also convey a message of calm. Right now, it is time to help our customers, support them, and try to find solutions to their problems,” said Airam Díaz Pastor, President of MedCruise. “This situation will have a significant economic impact on our companies, as well as on our communities. However, I am confident that thanks to our work and commitment, we will overcome this difficult, temporary situation. We must also encourage our companies and societies to help mitigate this slowdown in the cruise industry. I believe this will make us even stronger, and we can learn from this situation,” added Díaz Pastor.
