Hailed by many as the “Queen of Barbaresco,” Gaia Gaja has been named godmother of Silversea’s newest ultra-luxury ship, the Silver Moon. Gaja is the fifth generation of the renowned Gaja winery in the small Italian town of Barbaresco, a family business and iconic producer of Italian wine that has been operating since 1859. Gaja will be honored as the official godmother of the Silver Moon at a ceremony in Trieste on August 5, 2020.
From a young age, Gaja was encouraged to take an interest in all aspects of the winemaking process, and a winery was even named after her—"Gaia & Rey Chardonnay"—before she could walk. Today, along with her two brothers, Gaja is the guardian of her family's illustrious legacy, which has earned an internationally acclaimed reputation as a leading producer of fine Italian wines. Tailored to each region sailed, Silver Moon 's SALT program will elevate the role of food and drink as a means of experiencing a destination more deeply, showcasing entire ecosystems around the world's culinary cultures. In the SALT kitchen, SALT lab, and SALT bar, guests will develop an appreciation for regional ingredients and culinary traditions before venturing ashore under expert guidance to experience the culture of ingredients and beverages firsthand. Beyond food and flavors, culinary experts from around the world, such as Gaja, will use storytelling to forge meaningful connections between Silversea's inquisitive guests and the world's most remarkable places, cultures, and communities.
