MSC Cruises, the world's largest privately owned cruise line, today opened sales for MSC Magnifica for 2021, with itineraries in Northern Europe and the Baltic capitals, as well as exciting mini-cruises departing from Barcelona. The ship will undergo a major refurbishment early in 2021, valued at €130 million, including a 23-meter length extension, which will add 7,000 squaremeters of space dedicated to comfort and new amenities.
When the transformation work is complete, MSC Magnifica will feature two important new environmental advancements on board, complementing the wide range of cutting-edge technologies already present across the company's fleet: a state-of-the-art Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system and a state-of-the-art Advanced Wastewater Treatment (AWT) system.
SCR technology helps reduce nitrogen oxides to pure nitrogen and water using advanced active emissions control techniques. MSC Cruises also took the opportunity to install a state-of-the-art Advanced Wastewater Treatment System on board, meeting the highest standards and purifying wastewater to near-tap-water quality. The system complies with the strictest regulations in the Baltic Sea and treats wastewater to a higher standard than most systems available in cities worldwide.
To help reduce and minimize emissions continuously, even while the ship is in port, MSC Magnifica will be able to "plug in" to the local power grid in destinations where these systems are available at the dock.
The transformation of MSC Magnifica will also result in the addition of 215 cabins, increasing the total number of balcony cabins to 63% of the ship's total, as well as various general accommodation improvements, an additional 800 m2 of sun deck, a brand new water park, a redesigned children's area, and amenities such as two new restaurants and a new shopping area.
In addition, MSC Cruises announced today that MSC Magnifica will also offer new and varied itineraries to some of the most popular destinations in the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands and Madeira, Northern Europe, and the Baltic capitals. Following its refurbishment, the ship will adhere to the strictest environmental standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), enabling the vessel to be certified to operate in sensitive environments, including the Baltic Sea.
The refurbished ship will offer four stunning itineraries through the Norwegian fjords and will call at two new destinations: Skagen in Denmark, renowned for its sunshine and unique light, and Rosendal in Norway, home to the fourth largest fjord in the world. All of this makes it the ideal choice for summer 2021. In October and November, the MSC Magnifica offers five departures from Barcelona in a mini-cruise format through the Western Mediterranean, perfect for travelers looking to experience the cruise industry for the first time during a short getaway. Embarkation dates are October 31 and November 3, 6, 9, and 13.
As part of its extensive transformation, MSC Magnifica will also incorporate other cutting-edge environmental technologies, most notably the hybrid Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (ECGS), reflecting MSC Cruises' commitment to continuously minimize and reduce its environmental impact. This system removes up to 98% of sulfur dioxide from the ship's exhaust and significantly reduces particulate matter. The hybrid EGCS on MSC Magnifica provides greater flexibility to operate in all circumstances in an environmentally sound and responsible manner.
Sales for MSC Magnifica are now open, starting September 12. Passengers who book their cruise before December 12 will receive a 5% early booking discount. MSC Voyagers Club members will also receive their usual 5% discount, in addition to the early booking discount.

Baltic Capitals – Two opportunities to discover the beloved Baltic capitals are worth highlighting: a 12-night cruise departing on May 31st or a 14-night cruise sailing on September 11th. Both offer slightly different itineraries, although the 14-night option includes notable attractions such as an overnight stay in Stockholm and a visit to Skagen, Denmark. Both departures include an overnight stay in St. Petersburg and a stop in Oslo.
Norway your way – With so many ports to explore in Norway, passengers can choose from four different fjord itineraries departing during the summer season. Options include popular stops such as Flåm and Stavanger, and new destinations for MSC Cruises such as Rosendal (Denmark) and Nordfjordeid (Norway).
