CroisiEurope, Europe's largest river cruise company, recognizes that nature is our greatest ally and has long been committed to environmental issues. As pioneers in this field, their dedication to nature conservation extends far beyond regulatory requirements.
CroisiEurope constantly questions and reflects on developing projects with an ecological focus. Following conclusive tests carried out on the Seine with AS Energy, its ships have adopted GTL (gas-to-liquid), a synthetic fuel derived from the conversion of natural gas that is more environmentally friendly than diesel and improves their environmental performance.
The energy transition is underway on the Seine and will soon be underway on other rivers. Over the years, the company has undertaken other actions along these same lines:
- Installation of water savers on all their ships, which allows a 35% reduction in drinking water consumption and thus decreases the production of wastewater.
- Installation of wastewater assessment systems on all its ships, which are emptied during stopovers at treatment plants or urban sewer systems, with some units of the treatment plants.
- Installation of a wastewater collector at the CroisiEurope river station directly connected to the city sewerage system.
- When ports are equipped, their ships are systematically connected to electrical connection terminals (Power Lock Installation), and in the case of their own berths, CroisiEurope finances these new installations. Furthermore, most of the company's ships are equipped with energy-efficient electrical systems.
- In winter, CroisiEurope ships dock at a river port equipped with electrical sockets that allow them to be powered, thus reducing noise and pollution.
- In Paris, the company's excursions are conducted in electric buses, which are quieter and less polluting, for the benefit of everyone.
- CroisiEurope ships are equipped with "Greenship label" engines that comply with the strictest European standards for combating pollution and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
- The new technology used on board allows fuel consumption to be limited during navigation.
- The ventilation of the machinery rooms is isolated, which helps to reduce noise pollution.
- All waste is separated and compacted on board before being recycled.
- The engine oil is collected and transformed by port specialists.
- All maintenance products used are biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
- The paint used for exteriors does not contain polluting components.
- The company is gradually replacing plastic straws with biodegradable cardboard straws. In the future, plastic cups will also be replaced.
- For the replacement of bath towels, they raise awareness among their customers regarding ecology through written and oral messages.
- CroisiEurope is associated with Imrpim'Vert, an organization that respects ecological printing criteria and all company documentation is printed with vegetable inks and on unbleached paper.
- The company is affiliated with the Comité des Amateurs Fluviaux (Committee of River Shipowners), which federates the actors of the profession and organizes joint actions to face the great challenges of tomorrow.
- In 2018, CroisiEurope joined the CLES (Local and Environmental Cooperation in Synergies) initiative implemented in the Strasbourg port area, where the company's river station is located, in collaboration with neighboring businesses. This initiative aims to create synergies to optimize resource management and reduce the environmental impact of its activities on the surrounding area.
