The Port of Cádiz will break a new record tomorrow with the simultaneous docking of three 300-meter-long cruise ships and one 330-meter-long vessel. Together, the four ships total 1,211 meters in length and have a combined capacity of 17,138 people, including passengers and crew.
Given the size of the ships and the maneuvering safety margins, none will be able to dock at the Ciudad pier, which is 316 meters long. They will also share the dock with the cargo ships Volcán de Teneguía and Ciudad de Palma, both of which operate on the Trasmediterránea Cádiz-Canary Islands route. The ships will be positioned as follows:
Although up to five cruise ships had previously coincided on the same day, this is the first time that four ships of around 300 meters have arrived simultaneously.
In the medium term, when the container terminal is moved from the Reina Sofía dock to the new terminal, the number of simultaneous berths can be increased to 6.
Also on Wednesday, four more ships will be in port: one over 300 meters long, two slightly shorter ones, and a fourth measuring 105 meters. The total passenger and crew capacity exceeds 14,000 people.
It is worth remembering that, according to the latest study carried out by the Andalusian Regional Government on cruise tourism in the region, the average expenditure per cruise passenger per day in port of call is set at 40.6 euros, so the impact of these two days would be around 900,000 euros, not counting the crew's expenses.
