Madrid, January 29, 2019. Sustainability continues to shape Costa Cruises ' business strategy . With this perspective, the Italian company has developed various initiatives aligned with each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations in its 2030 Agenda.

4GOOFOOD stems from Costa Cruises to Goal 12.3 of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda, which focuses on reducing food surpluses. Costa recognizes the value of food surpluses as a resource and is implementing this project to reduce them by 50% by 2020, ten years ahead of the target date set by the UN.
As the final phase of 4GOODFOOD, in November 2018, Costa Cruises began collaborating with the Barcelona Food Bank , the first port on the Iberian Peninsula where this initiative was implemented. Thanks to 4GOODFOOD , various NGOs in the region have received Costa's surplus food—meals prepared on board but not served. These organizations have been responsible for collecting the food and distributing it to the most vulnerable people in the region.
The InterMundial Seguros Foundation has recognized 4GOODFOOD as one of the winning initiatives in the 2019 Responsible Tourism Awards. Rafael Fernández-Álava, Marketing and Communications Director of Costa Cruises, accepted the award and remarked: “We are especially proud of this recognition. For us, 4GOODFOOD is a clear example of how, at Costa, we strive to translate our sustainability commitments into actions that generate a real and positive impact on society. An award like this motivates us to continue working to expand this project and make it a reality in other Spanish ports where we operate.”
