Amsterdam will lose more than 50,000 cruise passengers after Cruise & Maritime Voyages announced it would replace its 2019 and 2020 cruise ship stops in the city following the approval of an €8 per passenger tax by local authorities, which will come into effect next January.
The announcement comes after MSC Cruises also announced the cancellation of its Amsterdam calls, which will be replaced by Rotterdam.
Cruise & Maritime Voyages has replaced the Columbus's 30 port calls in Amsterdam, where it had operated since 2010, with Rotterdam. More than a temporary measure, CMV has reached a three-year agreement with the Port of Rotterdam.
