Princess Cruises has announced that the Regal Princess , with a capacity of 3,560 passengers , will become the company's second ship to implement the Ocean Medallion device . Starting February 17, 2019 , passengers will be able to enjoy full access to the Ocean Medallion device on board the ship during its Caribbean season.
About the size of a one-euro coin , the Medallion is fully automatic and features invisible technology, eliminating the need for power buttons or charging. Its functions include, for example, streamlining the boarding and disembarking process , making entry and exit faster; keyless access to cabins ; and fostering interaction between crew members and other passengers . In this regard , the crew can see the traveler's food and beverage preferences
Another new feature is the ' OceanCompass ' app , which allows you to see the location of family and friends on board . You can also get real-time information about the itinerary and various activities and events on board via the information screens located on the decks. Furthermore, it includes access to interactive games, including trivia and treasure hunts , as well as casino games like poker , bingo, and roulette, all accessible through smart devices and selected screens .
With a capacity for 3,140 passengers , the Caribbean Princess was the first cruise ship in the line to fully incorporate Medallion Access . It is currently in the Caribbean.
According to the Vice President of Princess Cruises UK and Europe , " We have received excellent feedback from passengers and crew who have experienced the Medallion on the Caribbean Princess as we continue our journey towards its full activation across the fleet." He added , "The increasingly personalized service we can now provide is benefiting our guests from the moment they step aboard . The Medallion significantly enhances the onboard experience, from a faster embarkation process to the ability to stay in constant contact with friends and family, and even know your location on the ship or order a drink."
The Medallion was unveiled by Carnival Corporation CEO Arnold Donald in 2017. With this addition , the plan to gradually activate the entire fleet continues , and further updates will be announced in the future .
