Silversea's highly anticipated Venetian Society voyage concluded emphatically in Lisbon on October 18, following an itinerary that incorporated a series of unique and bespoke events. Departing from Monte Carlo on October 9, 2018, Silver Whisper visited several destinations in France and Spain. Organized by Fernando Barroso De Oliveira, Silversea's Executive Chairman's Ambassador to the Venetian Society, the annual voyage unlocked events, activities, receptions, and other authentic and exclusive privileges for the cruise line's valued Venetian Society members.
As the highlight of the voyage, guests of the Venetian Society witnessed a human tower, constructed on the grounds of the magnificent Sant Pau Modernist Complex in Barcelona, an architectural marvel protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The Catalan tradition of building human towers, also known as “castells,” had never before been performed at this extraordinary location. The captivating presentation, planned and orchestrated exclusively for Silversea guests, featured a human structure comprising approximately 120 castellers. It took place during the ship’s visit to the Catalan capital on October 11. The unique event also included a Catalan-inspired banquet in the spectacular Hypostyle Hall pavilion and private tours of the magnificent complex.
“El Castell” (human tower) was part of a series of enhancements designed to enrich the voyage exclusively for Venetian Society guests. Among other highlights were two flamenco music and dance shows, Flamenco Fuego and Flamenco Notes, performed in the ship’s elegant Show Lounge. Both the tradition of human towers and the art of flamenco have earned a place on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list and represent Silversea’s commitment to unlocking the world’s most authentic and breathtaking experiences.
