Barcelona, October 29 – Azamara Club Cruises, the luxury cruise line of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., has recently added its third ship, the Azamara Pursuit, to its fleet, with Spaniard Antonio F. Toledo taking command as captain.
Deeply connected to the sea since childhood, Captain Antonio F. Toledo was born and raised on the Spanish coast. From a young age, he knew he wanted to be a ship's captain. His vocation was reinforced by his work as a Red Cross volunteer at sea off Valencia and solidified by obtaining his Master's degree in Navigation and Maritime Transport from the Faculty of Nautical Sciences.
After serving for a time in the Spanish Navy, he worked for various cruise lines and five years ago joined Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. He has held several positions within the company, eventually becoming captain of the Azamara Pursuit. Toledo recently remarked that “after working on all types of cruise ships, I can say that the Azamara Pursuit is the perfect vessel for me. Its medium size allows access to all kinds of ports, deeper immersion in different destinations, and close interaction with both guests and crew.”
Azamara Pursuit, a glamorous new boutique ship
This third and newest ship perfectly embodies the company's philosophy. It's a mid-sized boutique vessel, allowing it to access all types of ports and remain anchored for longer periods, thus offering passengers the opportunity to explore each destination in depth. Furthermore, to enhance the guest experience, it offers onboard activities tailored to the region being visited through AzAmazing Events, as well as private and unique experiences such as listening to the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra or enjoying a presentation on Māori culture at the Te Papa Museum. It also features evening activities on land to experience the highlights of each destination, such as the Rio de Janeiro Carnival or the Monaco Grand Prix.
It can accommodate 609 passengers and 408 crew members, fostering a more intimate and personalized atmosphere, and features a cabaret, piano bar, jewelry stores, high-end cosmetics shops, and an art gallery. It also includes numerous extras such as all drinks and gratuities, transfers during port calls, and laundry service.
Another highlight is the quality and variety of gourmet experiences it offers. Discoveries is the main restaurant, serving elegant à la carte dinners with international dishes selected based on the region being sailed. But it also boasts many other options, such as The Patio, a casual poolside grill; Aqualina, offering Italian cuisine; and Prime C, specializing in meats and seafood.
