MSC Cruises and Fincantieri have announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the construction of four ultra-luxury ships, worth more than 2 billion euros.
The ships will have a gross tonnage of 64,000 and a capacity of 500 cabins. The first one is expected to enter service in the spring of 2023, with the remaining ships to be delivered one per year.
Pierfrancesco Vago, CEO of MSC Cruises, stated, “This is a direct result of the great success of our ship-within-a-ship concept, MSC Yacht Club, and our guests weren't asking for it.” He continued, “These ships will be able to offer unique itineraries thanks to their size, and the service will be taken to another level, including our personalized 24/7 butler service in MSC Yacht Club.”.
“Our best cabins on current ships sell very quickly, and we expect strong demand for a more luxurious product,” said an MSC Cruises executive.
With this project, Fincantieri has 53 orders in its pipeline, confirming its position as the absolute market leader.
