Madrid, August 30, 2018. Around 200 travel agents from the Community of Madrid —along with their companions—attended the premiere of Yucatán yesterday , the new comedy by director Daniel Monzón ( Cell 211, El Niño ). The feature film, starring Luis Tosar, Rodrigo de la Serna, Joan Pera, Stephanie Cayo, and Toni Acosta , and which will be released in theaters tomorrow , Friday, August 31 , was filmed—for the most part—aboard the Pullmantur Cruises ship Sovereign , which was transformed into a veritable film set.
Furthermore, and despite it still being summertime, senior officials from the sector – belonging to the main agency networks in Spain – did not want to miss the event and shared this exclusive preview with the President & CEO of Pullmantur Cruises, Richard J. Vogel, and the shipping company's team.
In this regard, Richard J. Vogelpoints out: “We wanted to share this event with travel agents – our main business partners – because – as great experts on our product – they know that our ships are places to have fun, disconnect, take a break… our common denominator with cinema.”
“Likewise,” he adds, “they are fully aware of the excellent work of our crew members – the true soul of Pullmantur Cruises – who provide a magnificent service to our guests every day, a vital aspect for the company.”.
In addition, the President & CEO commented that it is “an honor for us that 40 members of our crew joined the film team, changing their work on board for a role in the story, getting into the role of a fictional character.”.
The filming of the movie
More than 100 people from the cast and crew of Yucatán set sail on April 10, 2017 from Recife (Brazil) to embark - for 22 days - on the filming directed by Daniel Monzón, winner of the Goya Award for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for Cell 211.
Additionally, 40 crew members had the opportunity to become actors for a day and appear in the film, produced by Telecinco Cinema and Ikiru Films, with the participation of Mediaset España and Movistar+, and distributed by Hispano FoxFilm. They were joined by some of the passengers themselves, who were on board for vacation and also wanted to participate in the filming as extras.
The casino, the lobby, the deck, the pool and jacuzzi area, the restaurant or the 360º observation deck of the Sovereign ship, which operates from Barcelona, are some of the areas chosen to set the story of this feature film.
Synopsis
Lucas (Luis Tosar) and Clayderman (Rodrigo de la Serna) are two con artists, professionals at swindling unsuspecting tourists on luxury cruises. Years ago, they worked together, but their rivalry over Verónica (Stephanie Cayo), the ship's stunning dancer, drove them mad and destroyed their partnership. Now they work separately, Lucas in the Mediterranean and Clayderman in the Atlantic. That was the agreement. But an unexpected windfall prompts Lucas to board his former partner's ship, turning the exotic voyage from Barcelona to Cancún, via Casablanca, Tenerife, Brazil, and the Yucatán jungle, into a ruthless duel between con artists with no rules, but plenty of underhanded tactics…
